The Southern Super Stars faced off against a strong Toyam Hyderabad team.
Local athlete and dedicated cricket fan Mudasir Ahmad expressed his enthusiasm: “It was something new for me and for cricket enthusiasts. It was the first time we saw superstars, who have made their names, playing in Kashmir. I was thrilled.”
Bakshi Stadium was chosen over the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium due to its larger capacity of 30,000, allowing more fans to witness this historic event. Originally a football stadium, it has been refurbished with the assistance of international pitch experts to meet cricketing standards.
Khalid, a young cricket fan from the city, remarked, “We should host the IPL and other league matches here in Srinagar. Maybe this league will pave the way for something more.”
This tournament, which commenced on September 20, will conclude its remaining matches in Srinagar. In addition to today’s match, Bakshi Stadium is set to host contests featuring other cricketing legends, including Ian Bell, Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Shikhar Dhawan, and Chris Gayle over the coming week.
Given the significance of the event, security measures were significantly intensified. Senior police officials and security agencies implemented tight arrangements around the stadium, including metal detectors, drone surveillance, and an increased number of personnel to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all attendees.
“We had a comprehensive security plan in place, and our priority is the safety of players, officials, and spectators,” stated a senior police officer overseeing the arrangements.
As the final match of the league approaches on October 16, this event marks a monumental return of international cricket to Kashmir after nearly 40 years. Fans and organizers remain hopeful that this occasion will pave the way for larger cricketing tournaments in the region, including the potential for the IPL. (KINS)
