Srinagar, Dec 18 (KINS): Acting on credible intelligence regarding a narco-terror consignment in the Amrohi area near the Line of Control (LoC), the Kupwara Police, in collaboration with the Army, conducted a joint search operation in Chinotra, Village Amrohi. During the operation, they recovered 4 packets of heroin-like substance, weighing approximately 3 kg and 798 grams (including packaging). Additionally, arms and ammunition, including 4 pistols and 6 magazines, were seized. These items had been concealed by unidentified terrorists with criminal intent.
In response, an FIR (No. 64/2024) has been registered under Sections 113 BNS, 7/25 IA Act, 8/21 NDPS Act, and UAPA. An investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and uncover the links of the operation.
Kupwara Police has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking and narco-terrorism in 2024. Today, 7 individuals were detained under the PIT NDPS Act, bringing the total number of such detentions for the year to 14.
Additionally, 3 residential properties have been attached under UAPA in connection with terror-related activities, reinforcing the Police’s determination to target individuals supporting and facilitating terrorism.
In the last three months alone, 20 cases under the NDPS Act have been filed, pushing the total to 67 cases registered in 2024. As a result, 103 drug peddlers have been arrested, demonstrating the police’s aggressive crackdown on narcotics in the region.
Kupwara Police’s ongoing efforts have led to major seizures, including 21.82 kilograms of heroin, 2.37 kilograms of charas, 30 kilograms of poppy husk, 202 bottles of illicit liquor, and ₹93,705 in cash. Furthermore, 5 residential properties linked to drug peddlers have been seized as part of proactive measures to dismantle drug networks.
