Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha participated virtually from Jammu, underscoring Jammu and Kashmir’s strong commitment to neutralizing the narco-terror nexus and tackling the drug problem.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significant actions taken in 2024 to combat narcotics trafficking. He noted that 188 properties of traffickers had been identified for attachment under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA) and that 274 repeat offenders were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.
The Lieutenant Governor further emphasized that 2024 had seen remarkable progress, with 210 convictions – the highest ever recorded. A total of 1,514 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to 2,260 arrests. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to dismantle the entire drug syndicate, which poses a direct threat to the nation’s security and sovereignty. To expedite legal proceedings, five special NDPS courts were established for faster trials.
“Financial investigations are being conducted in all cases to track forward and backward linkages, ensuring the complete dismantling of the drug network in every NDPS case,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He further added that, under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir has adopted a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach to tackle drug trafficking and abuse. The Lieutenant Governor pointed to strong inter-departmental coordination and regular NCORD meetings held over the past two years to address various challenges.
He also highlighted the strengthening of forensic labs, with modern equipment and skilled manpower, ensuring effective functioning and the timely filing of charge sheets, which has enhanced the legal justice framework and the efficient trial of cases.(KINS)
