Srinagar food safety officials crack down on unsafe food practices in Khayam area

Srinagar, Feb 13 (KINS): A team of food safety officials, led by Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen ul Nabi, and Assistant Commissioner ICLC KMR, Hilal Ahmad Mir, carried out a rigorous inspection drive today in the Khayam area, focusing on food business operators, especially those serving ready-to-eat food and running roadside eateries.

Authorities said that the inspection uncovered instances where some food vendors were using harmful artificial colors in Biryani. The officials swiftly destroyed the contaminated food and initiated legal action against the offenders under the relevant food safety rules.

As part of the drive, the team also conducted an awareness campaign, educating food business operators on proper food handling, storage techniques, and the critical importance of using natural ingredients, especially colors, in food preparation. The inspectors emphasized the need to adhere to safe food practices to protect public health and ensure quality standards.

This inspection forms part of an ongoing initiative by the Drug and Food Control Organisation to enhance food safety across Srinagar. The organisation has made it clear that protecting the health of the public remains its top priority, with regular checks and education drives to ensure compliance with food safety norms. Previous similar inspections have been held in other parts of the city, underscoring the commitment to a safe food environment for residents and visitors alike.(KINS)
