Srinagar, July 24 (KINS): The Press Club of Kashmir has strongly condemned the assault on social media journalists by a group of junior doctors at SMHS Hospital. The incident took place during a protest by doctors following an alleged altercation with an attendant in the emergency ward the night before.
According to reports, the journalists were attacked while covering the protest, with some being dragged and even female reporters being manhandled.
Press Club President M Saleem Pandit said the doctors’ behavior was unacceptable and called it an attack on the entire media fraternity of Kashmir. “This is not just about a few journalists—it is about press freedom,” he said.
Pandit demanded an inquiry into the incident and urged the principal of the medical college to take immediate steps to defuse tensions between the journalists and the protesting doctors. He also warned that the Press Club would escalate the matter to higher authorities if no action is taken.
General Secretary Zulfikhar Majid reaffirmed the Club’s support to all affected journalists, assuring that the fraternity stands united in demanding justice.(KINS)
