Srinagar, Oct 14 (KINS): National Conference (NC) nominee for Rajya Sabha, Choudhary Ramzan, has appealed to all political parties and independent candidates to support the NC in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, calling it a vote for secularism and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Ramzan urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Congress, People’s Conference (PC), Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), and independents to “rise above political differences” and extend their support to NC candidates.
“I appeal to all parties and independent members to vote for the secular party, the National Conference, in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha polls. Jammu and Kashmir is going through a challenging phase both politically and administratively. We need a strong voice in Parliament to raise these issues,” Ramzan said, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
He said that the NC’s focus in Parliament would be to highlight the issues of the Union Territory. “We want to take the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the national stage and ensure that their voices are heard,” he added.
Responding to allegations that the NC had betrayed its ally, the Congress, in the Rajya Sabha seat-sharing arrangement, Ramzan clarified that there was no rift between the two parties. “We did not ditch Congress. We offered them one seat, but they denied. They continue to be our alliance partner,” he said.
Ramzan expressed confidence that secular forces across party lines would unite to strengthen the NC’s position in Parliament. “This is the time to put the interests of Jammu and Kashmir above party politics,” he added. (KINS)
