‘Draconian’ provisions in new Bills: NC

Srinagar, Aug 20 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Wednesday strongly criticised provisions in the three bills introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha, which propose the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers arrested on serious criminal charges for over 30 days.

Calling parts of the legislation “draconian,” NC state spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar as per news agency KINS said the party would oppose such measures “tooth and nail.”

“Some provisions of the bills are draconian. We demand a relook. These are matters of democratic principle, and we hope the government will listen to the genuine concerns of the Opposition and act rationally,” Dar said.

He stressed that the NC remains committed to safeguarding democratic values. “We hope the democratic principles will not be eroded further. Since the bills have now been referred to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), our expectation is that the Opposition’s concerns will be addressed there as well,” he added.(KINS)
