Srinagar, Nov 03 (KINS): To ensure transparency and curb the growing menace of fake journalists, the District Information Office, Baramulla, has issued a circular directing all media persons operating in the district to submit their credentials for verification within seven days.
The directive, issued in compliance with the orders of the Joint Director Information Kashmir (Vide No. INF/K-Estt.2091-98/2025 dated 31-10-2025), as per news agency KINS aims to safeguard the integrity of journalism and establish a credible mechanism to validate genuine media professionals.
According to the circular, only those media persons who are duly authenticated by the District Information Officer (DIO), Baramulla, will be permitted to attend official government functions, press conferences, and cover VIP/VVIP visits within the district. The order explicitly states that unauthorized or unverified individuals will not be entertained under any circumstances.
“This step is aimed at protecting the sanctity of journalism while creating a transparent system for bonafide media professionals to operate in the district,” the circular reads.
Media persons have been asked to furnish details and documents as per the checklist annexed to the circular, which includes identity proofs, organizational affiliation letters, bank or salary statements, and social media links of their respective media outlets or digital platforms.
Copies of the circular have been forwarded to the District Magistrate Baramulla, Director Information & PR J&K, Senior Superintendents of Police Baramulla and Sopore, and the Joint Director Information Kashmir for information and necessary action.(KINS)
