Srinagar, Nov 14 (KINS): To curb the possible misuse of vehicles for unlawful activities, Awantipora Police initiated a comprehensive enquiry across the Police District. SDPOs and SHOs inspected car dealerships within their jurisdictions and examined records related to the sale and purchase of vehicles.
The enquiry also focused on cases where multiple vehicles were purchased by a single individual. Officers verified documentation and advised dealers to maintain proper records of each transaction, including Aadhaar details, contact numbers, and identities of buyers and sellers.
Police stated that the exercise aims to enhance surveillance and prevent vehicles from being used for anti-social or illegal activities.
Meanwhile, Police in Shopian carried out an extensive physical verification drive across the district, inspecting vehicles and examining records maintained by various car dealers to ensure transparency and prevent misuse.
Teams inspected vehicles at dealerships and scrutinised documents related to sale, purchase, and transfer of ownership. Emphasis was placed on authenticity of records, timely transfer of ownership, and identifying discrepancies that could facilitate unlawful activities.
Dealers were directed to maintain accurate, updated records and strictly follow statutory norms. Police said the initiative strengthens security mechanisms in the district. Police in Kulgam conducted inspections of scrap dealers and second-hand vehicle vendors to ensure that vehicles and scrap materials were not being misused for terror-related or unlawful activities.
During the operation, officers checked documents, vehicle parts, and seized certain items for further verification. Particular attention was given to second-hand vehicles with outside J&K registration numbers. Dealers were instructed to maintain proper sale–purchase records and verify the antecedents of buyers and sellers.
J&K Police said they remain vigilant against any channel that could be exploited for terror support activities.
To enhance transparency in the pre-owned vehicle sector, Ganderbal Police conducted a district-wide checking drive at old vehicle sale–purchase units.
Police teams inspected documentation, verified ownership records, and examined transaction registers to detect irregularities or suspicious dealings. Officers sensitised dealers on the importance of maintaining proper transaction records, verifying customer credentials, and adhering to legal procedures.
Dealers were advised to immediately report any doubtful activity to local police. Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict vigil against threats to public safety.(KINS)
