Change of command at Chinar Corps: Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava hands over to Lt Gen Balbir Singh

Srinagar, May 01 (KINS):Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava on Friday relinquished command of the prestigious Chinar Corps after 19 months of distinguished leadership, handing over the reins to Lieutenant General Balbir Singh.
During his tenure, Lt Gen Srivastava oversaw a period marked by consolidation of the security architecture in Kashmir, making it more responsive and synergised, thereby contributing to peace and stability across the Valley. His command witnessed meticulous execution of key operations, including Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, which ensured justice in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. The successful and incident-free conduct of the Amarnath Yatra 2025 also stood out as a major achievement under his leadership.
The Corps registered notable operational successes in counter-infiltration along the Line of Control and intensified counter-terrorism efforts in the hinterland, delivering a strong blow to inimical elements. Alongside operational excellence, Lt Gen Srivastava’s outreach initiatives helped build trust and goodwill among the local population, earning appreciation for his humane approach. He will now assume the prestigious appointment of Quarter Master General at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi.
Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, a highly decorated officer with over 34 years of service, formally assumed command on May 01, 2026. On taking charge, he paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial in Srinagar, honouring the sacrifices of fallen soldiers. With extensive experience in counter-infiltration and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast, he brings significant operational expertise. He has previously commanded the Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in South Kashmir.
In his inaugural address, Lt Gen Balbir Singh reaffirmed his commitment to working in close coordination with the civil administration and the people of Kashmir to further strengthen peace, stability, and development in the region. He urged all sections of society to cooperate with security forces in addressing ongoing challenges.(KINS)
