Nationwide SOS alert test conducted; Authorities urge public not to panic
KINS Desk
Srinagar, May 2 (KINS): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday carried out a nationwide test of the Cell Broadcast Alert System as part of efforts to strengthen emergency communication infrastructure across the country.
The test was conducted in Delhi-NCR as well as in the capital cities of all States and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir. During the exercise, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), citizens received an emergency alert notification on their mobile phones, accompanied by a loud sound or vibration.
Officials clarified that the message was only a test alert and did not indicate any real emergency. The exercise was aimed at assessing the effectiveness, reach, and responsiveness of the alert system in disseminating critical information during disasters.
Authorities said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance preparedness and ensure that timely warnings can be delivered to the public in case of natural or man-made emergencies.
People were advised not to panic upon receiving such alerts, as similar tests may be conducted periodically to evaluate and improve the system’s efficiency. (KINS)
