Srinagar, Aug 07 (JINS): : Srinagar Police has solved a major theft case registered at Police Station Rainawari and recovered stolen property worth approximately 17.5 lakh, including gold ornaments, cash, electronic items and a motorcycle.
The case was registered as FIR No. 35/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint by Mohd Amin Changa of Mir Behri, Rainawari, regarding a theft at his residence.
During the investigation, police identified Mohd Hussain Latoo, son of Mohd Afzal Latoo, a resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Mir Behri, as an accused. Police said his involvement was established during questioning, while two of his alleged associates were found to be juveniles.
Based on the investigation and disclosures, police recovered gold ornaments worth around ₹12 lakh and ₹2.2 lakh in cash. Further investigation revealed that part of the stolen money had allegedly been used to purchase three iPhones and a motorcycle, collectively valued at around ₹3.5 lakh. These items were also recovered.
The recovered property includes two gold bangles, eight gold rings, a gold necklace, a gold pendant set, three sets of earrings, a pair of gold jhumkas, a wristwatch, ₹2.2 lakh in cash, three iPhones and a motorcycle.
Police said the total value of the recovered property is estimated at approximately ₹17.5 lakh. Further investigation remains underway, with additional recoveries expected.
Srinagar Police said it remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens and urged people to promptly report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the nearest police station.(KINS)
