17 Critical Care Blocks Being Established Across J&K Under PM-ABHIM

Jammu, Sep 24 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government is progressively strengthening emergency, trauma and critical-care services in remote and difficult areas, with 17 Critical Care Blocks being established across the Union Territory under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
Minister for Health and Medical Education, in a written reply to a question in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday, said the initiative includes 15 Critical Care Blocks with 50 beds each and two blocks with 100 beds each.
The Minister said the government was augmenting critical-care infrastructure, emergency and trauma services, ambulance and medical evacuation facilities, human resources and telemedicine support to improve access to critical healthcare in remote areas.
The focus, the Minister said, is on ensuring timely stabilization and management of critically ill and trauma patients at the nearest available health facility, followed by referral to higher centres wherever required.
The 17 Critical Care Blocks are intended to augment the existing critical-care capacity and facilitate decentralization of such services, the reply said.
The initiative is also aimed at reducing the need for patients from remote and difficult areas to travel long distances to access critical-care services.
The government said the strengthening of emergency and trauma care infrastructure, along with improved referral and evacuation facilities, would help ensure that critically ill and trauma patients receive timely treatment closer to their places of residence. (KINS)
