J&K UT-level chess championship concludes at Polo Ground

Srinagar, Sept 27 (KINS): The J&K UT-level Chess Championship 2026-27 for Under-15 and Under-19 boys and girls concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground, Srinagar, with participation from more than 50 players from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The two-day championship was held from September 23 to 24 under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council and organised by the All Jammu & Kashmir Chess Association (AJKCA).
The tournament provided young chess players an opportunity to showcase their talent, strategic thinking and sportsmanship while competing against players from across the Union Territory.
Organisers said the AJKCA has been taking initiatives to nurture chess talent in J&K and provide young players with exposure and opportunities to compete at national and international levels.
They also highlighted the growing popularity of chess in India, with the country currently holding the World Chess Champion title, and said such competitions can help young players from J&K aim for higher levels of competition.
At the concluding ceremony, trophies, mementoes and certificates were distributed among the winners and runners-up. The top four players in the respective categories will represent J&K in the upcoming National Under-15 and Under-19 championships.
Parents and participating players appreciated the efforts of the All J&K Chess Association in promoting chess and encouraging youngsters to take up the sport.
