FB pages of several local news papers blocked for local policy violation

Srinagar, Dec 30 : The Facebook pages of several news papers published from Srinagar have been blocked for local policy violation, say Facebook authorities.
Reports said that as Facebook pages of several news papers published from Srinagar remained blocked, the admins of such pages approached Facebook authorities who have cited local policy violation a reason for blocking such pages.
The Facebook authorities in their response to requests for unblocking the pages said that not the violation of Facebook rules but the violation of local rules are a reason for blocking such pages which indicates that the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have blocked these pages.
It is in place to mention here that for the last more than three years, the news papers have been carrying stories on the law and order situation related to gunfights and post gunfight clashes which are auto-posted on the pages of Facebook and twitter.
Some of the owners of the news papers expressed their dismay over the blocking of Facebook pages of their news papers.
Saying that media houses are punished even for a professional compulsion which comes in the way of their working.
Recently the facebook page of Free Press Kashmir was blocked by facebook authorities for nearly 48 hours and facebook took down video featuring scholar turned militant Manan Wani’s fathers voice in the background. A recent report in the New York times, “Inside facebooks secret rule book for global political speech” said the social media giant has told its moderators that Indian law prohibits calls for an independent Kashmir.
