Seven repeat drug offenders detained under PIT-NDPS act in Kulgam
Kulgam, Jun 17 (KINS): As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam have detained seven habitual drug offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act after securing detention orders from the competent authority.
The detained individuals have been identified as Dilber Ahmad Bhat of Labripora, Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat of Okey, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Tantraypora, Nisar Ahmad Dar of Sesman Daamjan, Shahid Mushtaq of Furrah, Aarif Hussain Ganie of Ganie Mohalla, Qaimoh, and Hilal Ahmad Lone of Herpora Hardu Hanger, Yaripora. They have been lodged in various jails across Jammu and Kashmir, including Bhadarwah, Poonch, Jammu and Udhampur.
Police said all seven are repeat offenders involved in multiple cases under the NDPS Act and had continued their alleged involvement in drug trafficking despite previous legal action. Their activities, officials said, posed a serious threat to public health and safety.
The action is part of intensified efforts by Kulgam Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of narcotics in the district. Officials added that more offenders have been identified and similar preventive measures, including detention under the PIT-NDPS Act, are being initiated against them.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, J&K Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and share information about drug-related activities to help build a drug-free society.(KINS)
