Statehood demand reflects people’s aspirations, protest will proceed as planned: Mian Altaf

Srinagar, Jun 17 (KINS): Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad on Wednesday said that holding a protest for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is a democratic right and affirmed that the proposed demonstration will be conducted as scheduled.

Speaking on the issue, Mian Altaf said the demand for statehood represents the aspirations of the people and remains a constitutional and democratic concern. He stressed that peaceful protests are a legitimate way to voice public opinion and seek the implementation of commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The demand for restoration of statehood is justified, and expressing it through peaceful democratic means is our right. The protest will take place as planned,” he said.

The MP urged the Centre to restore statehood without further delay, stating that the issue has been consistently raised by the people as well as political representatives across the region.

He said the restoration of statehood is closely linked to strengthening democratic institutions and enhancing public participation in governance. According to him, addressing the demand would help fulfill the aspirations of the people and reinforce democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
