“Mehbooba is among strongest chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir”

Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehboob Beg came out with support to the party President Mehbooba Mufti saying that she is one of the most consistent and strongest chief ministers of the state.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Beg applauded Mrs. Mufti for being persistent in politics both in government and in opposition and remaining steadfast.

“Her politics and conviction finds basis in her ‘pro-people belief’, how she handled the Kathua rape case in a case in-point,” said Mr. Beg.

Mr. Beg also said that Mrs. Mufti’s stand as chief minister was made crystal clear to the powerful central government. “Home Minister offered unconditional talks, the cases against protestors were withdrawn, the unilateral ceasefire was announced, how we cannot appreciate how she persisted with pro-people policies and made the BJP agree to matters that were politically inconvenient to them,” he said.

Mr. Beg also added that the BJP had entered in coalition by signing the dotted lines as the Agenda was drafted as pro-people. But BJP, he said, had no intentions to fulfill what they had committed to as one can do nothing if someone intends to deceive or cheat you.

“We have had people waste historical opportunities,” added Mr. Beg. “1996 was a historic opportunity, the government of the day had overwhelming numbers, but did that government dare to take ‘pro-people’ stands? Let history be the judge on that.”
