Srinagar, Jan 25: Home Minister Amit Shah praised the youth in Jammu and Kashmir for transitioning from a culture of unrest symbolized by stone pelting to embracing education and technology.
Shah emphasized this shift as a key factor in the significant decline in terrorism and violence witnessed in the region.
Speaking virtually from New Delhi, Shah, while inaugurating 100 E-buses for Jammuites, emphasized that the youth of J&K have traded stones for laptops, symbolizing a shift towards peace and development.
“Today, with the active support of J&K youth, hartals, organized protests, and stone pelting are things of the past. J&K is witnessing huge infrastructure building, smooth schooling, and development,” Shah remarked.
Highlighting the transformation, Shah noted the decline in terrorism by 70%, civilian killings by 81%, and security forces’ casualties by 48%. He credited this turnaround to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concerted efforts to strengthen the region’s governance structures.
Gone are the days of political favoritism in job appointments, Shah stressed, asserting that transparent recruitment processes have replaced opaque practices. He underscored the implementation of the Panchayati Raj System and ongoing delimitation exercises to ensure equitable representation for all segments of society.
Shah further outlined the government’s crackdown on terror financing, with properties of terrorists and their supporters being seized and several terrorist outfits being banned. He celebrated the absence of stone-pelting incidents in 2020 and the cessation of organized protests, highlighting a stark contrast to the tumultuous events of the past.
“In 2010, 112 people were killed in stone pelting, and in 2020, the figure is zero,” Shah emphasized, underscoring the tangible strides towards peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
As the region embraces a future of development and stability, Shah’s address signals a promising trajectory for J&K’s socio-economic growth and underscores the government’s commitment to fostering peace and progress in the region.
