As taps go dry Sopore’s Green Town protests, block Sopore-Baramulla road

Sopore: Facing portable water shortage for a month, Sopore’s Green Town on Monday came on roads demanding immediate restoration of the supply. While officials accept that area has been badly hit they claim that work on a new supply scheme ‘will commence soon till then water tanks will be deployed’.

Locals blocked Sopore-Baramulla road and demanded action against lackadaisical approach of PHE towards public grievances.
“For a month they have stopped the water supply, its inhuman on their part. They should be booked for not dispensing their official dutiies,” protesters said.
They demanded that higher district officials should look into the matter as to why was water supply stopped.
“If they had to then they should not have put whole area at a mental stress. Some one should stop water supply to their homes only then they will understand our problem,” a lady protester said.
PHE officers said that department is working to provide water supply through Watlab line to the area.
“Higher authorities had approved this scheme for the area and work on this scheme will be started soon,” officials said wishing anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to media.
