Jammu-Srinagar highway closed after fresh landslides, thousands stranded

The strategic Jammu-Srinagar Highway was closed for traffic on Tuesday following fresh landslides and shooting stones at Digdol in Ramban district of Jammu region.

SSP National highway, Jitandar Singh Johar said the road was closed due to fresh slide and shooting stones at Digdol.

He said thousands of people were stranded on the highway because of the slide.

“It is requested that there should be no movement from Jammu to Srinagar on National Highway. Public is requested not to travel on National highway as it will not be possible to allow them on the highway,” said the SSP, adding they were trying clear the stranded vehicles first.

He said the restoration work was going on but continous shooting stones were hampering the clearance work.

The highway, which connects Kashmir with the rest of the world, was closed for several days during last week due to landslides at Digdol.
