Shopian encounter ends, two Hizb militants, civilian killed

Srinagar, May 31: Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and a civilian were killed in an encounter at Dragad Sugan area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.

Official sources told that the two among the three bodies which have been recovered near the encounter site are that of militants and another is that of a civilian.

A police officer also confirmed the killings and identified the two militants as Abid Manzoor Magray alias Saju son of Manzoor Ahmad Magray of Nowpora Pulwama and Hilal Ahmad Bhat of Aarmullah Pulwama. He said that both the militants were affiliated with HM outfit.

The officer identified the slain civilian as Jasim Rashid Shah of Malnad Zainpora. According to reports Jasim was missing from his home since yesterday.

The bodies of the trio was taken to Zainapora police station for further necessary formalities, he said, adding that the medico-legal formalities have been done and the bodies are being handed over to their respective families for last rites.

The encounter broke out after the joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Dragad Sugan today pre-dawn hours. (GNS)
