Srinagar, June 29: As the annual Amarnath yatra is set to begin from Monday, IGP Kashmir Swayam Prakash Pani on Saturday reviewed all arrangements, including security along the twin routes of Baltal and Pahalgam, for smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Accompanied by DIG CKR V. K. Birdi and respective District SSPs from Srinagar and Ganderbal and other senior officers of Police, IGP today took a review of the security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra which is commencing on July 1 (Monday).
The 40-day yatra to the cave shrine at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas will commence from both the routes.
In order to have proper co-ordination and synergy among forces being deployed for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, IGP Kashmir visited Pantha Chowk, Parimpora, Sumbal, Barsoo, Manigam transit camp, and other alternate routes.
IGP Kashmir emphasized upon all concerned officers to stay alert and maintain effective coordination among forces during Yatra. The objective of the security review was sensitization of security forces about ground realities and their preparedness in terms of law and order, facilitating assistance to the general public besides providing assistance to the pilgrims who are scheduled to arrive for Shri Amarnath Yatra.
IGP further impressed upon the officers to utilize adequate resources for ensuring appropriate security arrangements along the route and ensure that adequate facilities are made available for the convenience of Yatries at all points.
At transit camp Manigam, the camp In-Charge briefed IGP about the security of campus and accommodation for Yatries as well as measures taken for implementing of cut-offs timings at Manigam.
SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Poswal briefed IGP about the ground deployment of forces on the Yatra route and measures taken to secure the entire stretch.
The Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been tasked with providing security to the pilgrims and a multi-tier security arrangement has been planned for the yatra.
The security forces have begun sanitizing the yatra routes, officials said, adding they have been asked to ensure optimum use of latest technologies and gadgets for securing the yatra. (GNS)
