56000 road accidents claim 8000 lives in 9 years in JK

SRINAGAR, July 2: The road accidents have claimed at least 8000 lives in last nine years in Jammu and Kashmir.

The figures of Traffic Department reveal that over 8000 people have died while over 80,000 got injured in 56000 road accidents for last nine years.

984 people lost their lives during 2018 while the number stood at  926, 958, 917 lives during 2017,  2016, and 2015, respectively.

This year too, there is no let down of road accidents.

35 people lost their lives on Monday after a minibus skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Kishtwar district.

Last week, at least 11 students were killed and seven others injured when a Tempo they were travelling in crashed after plummeting around 500 feet down a gorge along the mountainous Mughal road in Shopian district.
