Anantnag Police arrests a bootlegger, recovers 30 bottles of illicit liquor

Srinagar : Police in Anantnag arrested a bootlegger and recovered 30 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.

Officers at a checkpoint established at Sangam, Bijbehara intercepted a vehicle Alto-800 bearing registration No. JK03H-5312 with one person on board. He was travelling from Srinagar towards Anantnag and identified as Mohammad Abass Ganie resident of Pazalpora Bijbehara.

Officers while checking the vehicle found 30 bottles of illicit liquor which he was transporting in his vehicle.

When the officers spoke to him they learnt of his involvement in bootlegging, transporting and illegal sale of liquor in the area.

A case FIR No. 169/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Bijbehara. Bootlegger has been shifted to PS Bijbehara where he remains in custody.

Community members have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police has resolved to act tough against anti social elements.
