Police introduces free night pick-&-drop service for distressed women in Jammu city

In a unique initiative, police in Jammu city are introducing free pick-and-drop service for women who are struck somewhere during night hours.

In view of increasing crime against women, the pick-and-drop service aided with a helpline will start from Sunday evening in the Jammu city.

Under this service, the women who are stuck somewhere or their vehicles develop some problem can call police control room on1091 or 100 from 10 pm to 5 am to seek the free service.
We have established coordinated effort between the concerned SHOs in Jammu City and PCR vans so that distressed women can be helped during night,” said SSP Jammu, Tajinder Singh while speaking to media.

“DySPShwatambri will be Nodal Officer and we have also appointed some women constables to accompany the distressed women during night to drop them at their respective destinations,” he added.

He said that after every five minutes, the distressed caller women will be checked if she is all-right and reached her destination safely.
Sharing details regarding women issues in the city, the SSP told media that they had registered 319 FIRs in Jammu district the year.

Out of these 319 FIRs, he said, they have disposed off 159 FIRs and 160 FIRs are still under investigation. “The stalkers and harasser of women will be dealt strictly under law,” the SSP Jammu warned.
