INAUGURATION OF SILAI CENTRE FOR LOCAL WOMEN AT KUSHIPORA

Srinagar, 17 Feb 2020.      In order to provide employment opportunities to local women of neighbouring villages and promote gender equality, a Silai Centre was opened at Kushipora Village on 16 Feb 2020. The Silai Centre will train the local women on tailoring skills, so as to empower them to earn their livelihood and support their families.

A total of 40 women across varying age groups, were present and were informed on the significance of the Centre as well as the daily routine and other planned programs to be undertaken in coordination with Women Empowerment Centre, Hanzik. The event also saw the women being given Silai Kits. The women were provided with sewing machines to begin their training. An instructor has been enlisted to train these women in the basic nuances of stitching and tailoring.

The local women thanked the Army, for extending their support in enabling women to be financially independent while also adding that such schemes would help empower more people and allow them to enter the mainstream. The attendees also added that such initiatives will further strengthen the bonhomie and cooperation that exists between the Awaam and the Army.
