Two Drug peddlers booked under PSA, shifted to Baramulla jail

Srinagar, March 21 : Authorities on Saturday booked two “notorious” drug peddlers from Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) as part of its ongoing drive to curb the menace of drug abuse in the Valley.

The two drug peddlers identified as Abdul Hamid Rather son of Ghulam Mohd Rather and Pervaz Ahmad Malik son of Abdul Jabbar Malik, both residents of Daril Payeen Vilgam were arrested nearly two weeks ago with a large quantity of drugs, a police officer said.

Subsequently, a case FIR no under relevant sections of law and NDPS act was registered in Police Station concerned, he said.

The officer told that today both the drug peddlers have been booked under the PSA by the orders of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and were shifted to sub jail Baramulla.

The duo was booked under J&K Prevention of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance act 1988, by the orders of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, he added.
The officer further said that Handwara Police has arrested as many as 15 notorious drug peddlers in different NDPS cases in the last one month.

“Handwara Police is committed to continue it’s war against the drug peddlers and sought co-operation of people in curbing social evils especially drug abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction,” he added. (GNS)
