Those who cannot pay electricity bills won’t be panalised: PDD CE

KINS Desk

Srinagar, March 28 (KINS): Under fire for asking consumers to pay electricity bills online, Power Development Department has decided that consumers who cannot pay bills won’t be penalized.

Power Development Department has issued an order which says, “To break the Covid-19 chain, the PDD has asked its consumers to avail online bill payment facility from the comfort and safety of their homes. Consumers can pay their electricity bills online on the website https://billsahuliyat.jkpdd.net/.

However, PDD came under sharp criticism for asking consumers to pay bills online when Kashmir is under total lockdown in view spread of coronavirus.

“This order is an absurd and shows callousness PDD’s,” said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Rajbagh.

He said when entire world was fighting against the COVID-19, PDD was asking consumers to pay bills.

“See what PDD is asking for? When everyone is concerned how to save ourselves from coronavirus, PDD is asking us to pay bills online,” Fayaz Ahmad tweeted.

In a damage control exercise, Chief Engineer PDD Aijaz Ahmad Dar said they would revoke the order.

“We had told those who have access to internet can pay bills online. Still we will revoke it. Those who cannot pay bills will not be penalised. We know these are tough days for us,” Dar told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
