Srinagar, May 31 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Congress president G A Mir Sunday said all the happenings taking place since August 5 in the new Union Territory are “undemocratic and unconstitutional”.
“We have been saying everything happening since August 5 in Jammu and Kashmir is unconstitutional and undemocratic,” Mir told news agency KINS.
Asked there are some reports that Centre was forming an advisory council led by J&K Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari, he replied, “There are some people who are mouth piece of New Delhi and have no public representation. New Delhi can do anything. They can pick and choose them. These decisions have no constitutional validity. Let these leaders do whatever they want but people will teach them a lesson during elections. If New Delhi believes that situation is better now let them go for elections. Why these backdoor entries?”
There are some reports that Centre is setting up an advisory council led by Bukhari in early June as an alternative political front.
Bukhari, who is camping in New Delhi as per some media reports also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently.
In March this year, a delegation of JKAP leaders led by Bukhari also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
In March this year, Bukhari floated his own party. The party’s core agenda is restoring statehood for the region.
He had held the education and finance portfolios in the erstwhile state’s PDP-BJP coalition government.
Mir also opposed the Centre’s decision of delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Centre has degraded, bifurcated and abolished special status of J&K then how can we appreciate undemocratic things,” Mir asked.
The government had on 6 March constituted the commission, to be headed by former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, to redraw Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland.
The National Conference has against the exercise and the reorganisation Act since it is a consequence of the scrapping of Article 370, carried out last year by the Centre.
LS Speaker Om Birla Thursday nominated three NC MPs- Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice (retd.) Hasnain Masoodi and Muhammad Akbar Lone- as associate members of delimitation commission.
However, the National Conference said its MPs won’t be part of the delimitation commission. (KINS)
