Hailstorm damage crops in Kupwara villages

Srinagar, June 06 (KINS): Heavy rains followed by hailstorm hit various parts of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday, causing huge damage to the crops.

Reports reaching news agency KINS, heavy rains started in various parts of Handwwara include Galoora, Langate, Mawer, Pohru Chakla, Qaziabad on Saturday evening, followed by heavy hailstorm, inflicting huge loss to apple and other crops.

Tasaduk Ahmad, a local from Handwara told news agency the hailstorm caused damage to apple orchards in the belt and urged the department of horticulture to access the damage.“Lt Governor-led administration should look into the issue,” he said.

Meanwhile, locals have urged the authority to send a team of officials to ascertain the damage and compensate the farmers. (KINS)
