Illegally collected forest produce recovered in Anantnag

Anantnag, June 07 (KINS): The forest department in Anantnag district Sunday recovered over 11 kg of illegally collected forest produce during a raid near Achabal.

The DFO Anantnag, Feroz Ahmad Chaket told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that the officials raided the vehicle near Thajiwara Achabal and recovered large quantity of dry (Morchella esculenta), a forest produce.

He said that on a specific tip off from a reliable source, a Naka was laid near Thajiwara Achabal . “Naka party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no JK 03E 3288, and was asked to stop .On checking the vehicle party seized 11 kgs of dry Morchella esculenta ( Guchhies) worth Rs 1.80 lacs from one culprit namely Nissar Ahmad Thokar Son of Abdul Khaliq” he said .

He added that accused was arrested on spot and was handed over to concerned police station. “FIR has been lodged and vehicle along with seized stocks have been carted down to the seizure depot”.

The DFO said that they had lodged several cases for smuggling of wild produce. “The department will take strict action against those involved in collecting forest produce illegally,” he said. (KINS)
