KU Joint CR Association condemns arrest of varsity student Aqib Malik

 KINS Desk

SRINAGAR, July 25(KINS): The Joint Class Representative (CR) Association University of Kashmir has condemned the arrest of one post graduate student Aqib Malik from the department of Biochemistry of the varsity.

Police have arrested Aqib, who hails from south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

“A case vide number 68/2018 under section 13 of Unlawful Activities Act (UAPA) stands registered at Nigeen police station. The role of the student has been established and subsequently he has been detained,” a local news gathering agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) quoting an unnamed official as having said.

The Joint CR Association has written a letter to varsity authorities where they have condemned his arrest.

“The Joint CR Association solemnly condemn the groundless accusations made by the concerned authorities upon one of our post graduate student Aqib Malik from the department of Biochemistry of the university of Kashmir,” they said, in the letter, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

“The said student always works for the welfare of students and has been raising genuine social demands of students with the University of Kashmir. Moreover, we do not encourage unlawful activities. It is just a childish and undignified manner of government arresting an innocent student in such depressing experience during this pandemic,” the letter reads.

“We demand the immediate release of said student. Furthermore, we would also like to inform that we are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst against this issue as the authorities are accelerating their attacks on the students,” the letter says.(KINS)
