SRINAGAR, July 28(KINS): Attendants of a patient, who died due to alleged medical negligence, Tuesday morning vandalized Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) Sherbagh Anantnag.

Rozi Jan, 26, a resident of Beighbagh delivered a baby at MCCH Anantnag on Monday afternoon. She was normal till Tuesday early morning when she complained uneasiness. “We told the doctors but no one attended her. We were told she is alright. She eventually passed in the morning,” a family member told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS). “She could have been saved had the doctors attended her,” the family member said.

The attendants then lost their cool and vandalized the hospital infrastructure including the ambulance.

Medical Superintendent MCCH Anantnag Dr Mirji Andrabi denied the lady died due to medical negligence. “She went unwell on Tuesday morning and we wanted her to shift to Srinagar for ventilator support. He said one of the staff members got injured and received stitches.

Principal Government Medical College Anantnag Dr Showkat Jeelani said a committee has been set up to unveil the facts. “She had delivered a baby on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday morning, her oxygen saturation dropped. The doctors decided to shift her to Srinagar for ventilator support but was not allowed by her family members,” he told KINS.

Asked family is blaming doctors for not attending to her, he replied, “I can’t say anything right now. We have set up a committee to unveil facts.”

The MCCH is associated hospital of Government Medical College Anantnag. It receives patients from four districts including Anantnag, Kulgam, Banihal and Kishtwar.
