Army conducts Niry sports fest on occasion of National Sports day

Srinagar, Aug 31 (KINS):  The Indian Army Monday said that it conducted a sports festival in Niru Valley of Bandipore District.

In a statement issued to news agency KINS, the Army said, “ The sports festival was celebrated in the Niru Valley of Bandipore District with great enthusiasm, zeal and gusto during the conduct of Niru Sports Fest to commemorate the 9Th National Sports Day”.

“The event was inaugurated by Mr Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Block Development Chairman, Tulail Block. The event was marked by conduct of numerous sports events which included track events of 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters sprints and 4 x 400 meters relay race. Field events of Javelin Throw, Long jump, High Jump, Archery competition and Volleyball matches were also conducted. More than the efforts of the organizing authorities it was the enthusiasm of the youth which made the event a grand success. A total of 136 athletes from 10 different villages of the region participated in the sports fest and displayed their potential in the field. The participation of the youth in such overwhelming numbers bears testimony to the fact that these sons of the soil are no less than the best and their skill and talent cannot be shadowed by geographical adversities and extreme weather faced by Gurez Valley,” it said.

“The importance of the event was enhanced exponentially as the youth displayed their absolute solidarity with the men in uniform in organizing the conduct of this grand event. The day is not far when the India’s sports representation in the international arena will be incomplete without representation from Gurez”.(KINS)
