Police arrests 4 drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora; contraband substances recovered


Srinagar Feb 17 (KINS): Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Kulgam and Awantipora have arrested four drug peddlers & recovered contraband substances from their possession, besides cash amount of Rs 22,000 was also seized.
A police statement issued to news agency KINS says that in Kulgam, officers from police station Kulgam headed by SHO PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established near filling station Chawalgam signalled a person carrying two gunny bags to stop but he tried to flee from the spot. “However he was chased and apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. He has been identified as Ghulam Nabi Lone resident of Rambhama. During checking, officers were able to recover 11Kgs Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” the statement reads.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 18/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
“In Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at Gallander Crossing Pampore of PS Pampore intercepted a vehicle (SX4) bearing registration No. JK01L-2960 with three persons on board. They have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Masoodi resident of Bagandar Pampore, Amir Hamid Lone and Owaise Gul both residents of Drangbal Pampore. During checking, officers were able to recover 10kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. Officers have also seized cash amount of ₹22000 from them. During questioning, the arrested trio admitted that the seized money pertains to the proceeds of the narcotic substances. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pampore where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” the statement reads.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 18/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore and further investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace, it reads. (KINS)
