Oho Paysin Dar Mohalla Shangus faces abrupt power cuts as Govt fails to install new transformer

KINS Anantnag Correspondent
Anantnag March 11 (KINS): Residents of Oho Paysin Dar Mohalla Shangus are facing abrupt power cuts and low voltage, demanding installation of new transformer.
There are 20 households at Oho Paysin Dar Mohalla which is far-flung area of Shangus and all are registered consumers with the power department.
“We have 25 KV transformer installed which often gets damaged due to overload. We need at least 63 KV transformer to cater needs of people,” a local told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service. “Most of the times, this far-flung village reels under darkness. Our children have to study under candle light. We brought this into notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” the residents said.
During the PDP-BJP government, a platform was also laid for installation of new transformer for which the then MLA Shangus Gulzar Ahmad had released funds from CDF.
On January 15, 2021, Assistant Executive Engineer wrote a letter to Executive Engineer O&M Division KPDCL Anantnag which says, “This is to inform, that said work was carried out under CDF on the direction from then MLA Shangus. But later on transformer could not be provided to this village because collapse of local government  and due to lock down from 2019.”
Executive Engineer PDD Shangus Syed Khurshid said they expect residents would get new transformer under DDC scheme by March 31.
“They should also approach our office and we will also take this issue with higher authorities,” he told news agency KINS.
