Commissioner Secretary Forest reviews Jambu Zoo Project

 

Asks officers to act strictly against contractors for not meeting deadlines

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 2 ( KINS): Commissioner Secretary Forest, Ecology and Environment, Sanjeev Verma, today reviewed progress on Jambu Zoo Project during a meeting held at Wildlife Complex, Manda, Jammu.

Wildlife Warden, Jambu Zoo, made a PowerPoint Presentation highlighting status of various works being executed under the ambitious project. The project encompasses three components including infrastructure, animal enclosures and services.

It was informed in the meeting that most of the major works are being done expeditiously for speedy completion.

It was informed in the meeting that work on veterinary hospital, animal feed store, animal kitchen, slopes stabilization and view points are near completion.

The Commissioner Secretary took serious notice of slow pace of work on entry gate. He asked the officers to take action against contractors who are not meeting the given timeline. He also asked the officers for floating balance tenders including tenders of services at the earliest.

Pertinently, the Jambu Zoo shall be first full-fledged Zoo in Jammu and Kashmir which shall be major attraction for domestic as well as outside tourists. Besides, it will serve as a centre for education and awareness about Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation. Upon completion, the Jambu Zoo will host several Native and Exotic animals in its 17 enclosures apart from having various public amenities. The current phase of the project is being funded by JKIDFC at an estimated cost of Rs 62.41 crore.

The meeting was attended by Suresh Kumar Gupta, Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K, Dr.  Kumar MK, Regional Wildlife Warden, Jammu, Anil Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu, Amit Sharma, Wildlife Warden, Jambu Zoo and Engineering wing of the department. ( KINS)
