RKFC to lock horns with Namdhari FC on Saturday ‘Kashmir’s players get offer from ISL teams’

Srinagar April 12: Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) is set to face Namdhari FC in a crucial match on Saturday at TRC Ground Srinagar, aiming to secure the 3rd spot in the I-League season 2023-2024.

Currently positioned 4th in the standings with 40 points from 23 matches (including 11 wins, seven draws, and five losses), a victory on Saturday would propel them to 3rd place. There are 13 teams participating in the I League season 2023-2024 from across the country.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, RKFC head coach Ishfaq Ahmad expressed the team’s determination to end the season on a high note. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Namdhari FC, who had previously defeated RKFC 1-0 on their home ground, but emphasized the team’s readiness to secure all three points.

Assessing RKFC’s performance this season, Ishfaq highlighted it as the best yet, praising the players and staff for their remarkable efforts. He also mentioned that several RKFC players have received offers from ISL teams, showcasing the talent emerging from Kashmir and indicating a promising future for football in the region.

Atheeb, a player from RKFC, also addressed the media, while Namdhari FC coach Herpreet Singh and player Peter Haokip shared their perspectives on the upcoming match.

Guided by local head coach Ishfaq Ahmad, RKFC has maximum Kashmiri players, representing the sole club from J&K in the I-League. Founded in 2016 by the late Sandeep Chatoo, RKFC has played a pivotal role in nurturing youth talent in the valley, providing opportunities for young players to compete in the nation’s top football leagues.
