Srinagar, Apr 02: Continuing their efforts to combat the scourge of drugs in society, the police have arrested three individuals involved in drug peddling in Budgam and Kulgam, confiscating contraband substances and cash from their possession.
In Budgam, a police team from Police Station Budgam intercepted a motorcycle at Choon crossing, ridden by Bilal Ahmed Wani and Showket Ahmad Wani, residents of Thokerpora. Upon search, the police recovered approximately 8.1 kilograms of poppy straw, 36 grams of charas, three mobile phones, and ₹1000 in cash believed to be proceeds from narcotics. The suspects were apprehended, and the vehicle used in the crime was seized.
In Kulgam, a police patrol near Behibrada intercepted a suspicious individual attempting to flee. Upon search, they found 5.5 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag. The suspect, identified as Sareer Ahmad Itoo, was taken into custody.
Cases under relevant laws have been registered at the respective police stations, with further investigations underway.
