Srinagar, May 03: A transformative two-day training workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of Science educators concluded successfully today at the Army Goodwill School in Wyne Kupwara. Organized jointly by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK, and the CSIR – Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM), the workshop garnered enthusiastic participation from 49 Science teachers from various government schools in Kupwara / Tangdhar, alongside educators from AGS, Kupwara.
Mr. Hemant Lagvankar, a key facilitator of the program, highlighted, “The primary goal of this teacher development initiative was to equip educators with innovative methodologies for delivering Science concepts effectively. Teachers were introduced to dynamic active learning techniques tailored for science education, fostering students’ conceptual comprehension. Additionally, teachers gained exposure to practical science experiments adaptable to diverse learning environments, including those lacking traditional laboratory facilities.”
Engaged participants enthusiastically embraced learning methodologies such as Dart, Tarsia, and Dominoes during the workshop sessions. Mr. Manzoor Ahmed, Deputy Chief Education Officer of Kupwara, encouraged educators to integrate these innovative techniques into their classrooms, enhancing the efficacy and enjoyment of Science education for students.
Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, Senior Principal Scientist from IIIM, outlined the objectives and educational initiatives, including the Jigyasa program, which fosters student-scientist interaction. Through Jigyasa, CSIR facilitates various activities such as scientist visits to schools, student training in CSIR labs, live scientific demonstrations, and residential programs.
The coordination efforts of Dr. Asha Chaubey, Senior Principal Scientist at IIIM, and Lt. Col. Rajiv from AGS were pivotal in ensuring the success of this two-day workshop.
