SMHS Hospital Sees 10,000 Visitors Daily; Appeals for Cooperation in Maintaining Cleanliness

Srinagar, Aug 13: The SMHS Hospital experiences a high footfall of around 10,000 visitors each day, including patients, attendants, and other visitors. The Emergency/Casualty Department alone handles approximately 3,200 patients daily, offering a range of services such as consultation, treatment, and testing.
The hospital’s inpatient facilities consist of various wards with a total capacity of 890 beds. On average, 30 major and 60 minor procedures are performed daily. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the outpatient department attended to 1,063,028 patients, while 107,589 were treated in the inpatient department. Additionally, 10,726 major and 12,543 minor surgeries were conducted during this period.
SMHS Hospital conducts around 6,000 lab tests daily in its 24/7 labs. Imaging services include 30 MRIs, 450 ultrasounds, 125 CT scans, and approximately 400 X-rays each day.
Despite the substantial daily traffic, the hospital prioritizes sanitation and hygiene. A dedicated team of 35 sanitation workers ensures cleanliness through a three-shift sanitation drive. Major areas, including the Emergency/Casualty block and certain wards, covering 62,000 square feet, have outsourced cleaning services for thorough maintenance.
Hospital authorities request the cooperation of all visitors, patients, and attendants in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. They are urged to avoid littering and to refrain from bringing plastic bags into the hospital. SMHS and its associated hospitals remain committed to delivering quality healthcare with a strong emphasis on sanitation and cleanliness.
