Authorities ramp up social media monitoring ahead of J&K Assembly elections to ensure public safety & electoral integrity

Srinagar, Aug 21 (KINS): With the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections on the horizon, authorities are significantly intensifying their monitoring of social media platforms to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
The move comes in response to growing concerns about the potential misuse of digital platforms to disrupt public order or influence voters through the spread of misinformation.
Senior officials from the Cyber Police told the Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that their teams are already actively patrolling various social media platforms.
The goal is to detect and intercept any content that could incite unrest, manipulate public opinion, or otherwise interfere with the integrity of the upcoming elections.
“Our cyber police units are fully prepared and will continue to monitor social media platforms rigorously. We are committed to identifying and stopping any attempts to post content that could stir trouble during the elections,” a senior police official stated, emphasizing the importance of preventing malicious actors from exploiting social media to destabilize the region.
Authorities have underlined a zero-tolerance policy towards the dissemination of misleading information, hate speech, or posts that could heighten tensions. They warned that any content deemed harmful to the electoral process or public safety will be swiftly dealt with. This comprehensive strategy aims to preemptively curb the misuse of digital platforms, particularly in a politically sensitive environment like Jammu and Kashmir.
