Srinagar, Sep 15 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Naib Tehsildar Uri, Altaf Hussain Khan, after he was caught red-handed demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
“The arrest followed a complaint alleging that Khan had demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for preparing land documents and submitting a report to the Tehsildar of Uri” ACB said in a statement issued to news agency KINS.
“The complainant had purchased a plot of land in Rajarwani, Uri, for Rs 5 lakh but was unable to obtain the revenue documents from the seller.
As a result, he approached the Tehsildar for assistance. The Tehsildar directed Patwari Pardeep Kumar to visit the site and submit a report. However, when the complainant approached Kumar, he was taken to Naib Tehsildar Khan, who demanded the bribe in the Patwari’s presence. After negotiation facilitated by the local Sarpanch, it was agreed that the complainant would pay an initial installment of Rs 50,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB with a written request for legal action. Following a discreet investigation that confirmed Khan’s demand for the bribe and the Patwari’s involvement, a case was registered under FIR No. 12/2024. The ACB laid a trap, and Khan was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The bribe money was recovered in the presence of independent witnesses, and Khan was immediately arrested”.
“Further investigation revealed that Khan had been previously booked by the ACB in another case involving abuse of official position. He was presented before the Anti-Corruption Court in Baramulla and remanded into police custody for ten days. The investigation into the roles of the Patwari and Sarpanch is ongoing”.(KINS)
