Srinagar, Aug 22 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir is expected to hold its next Assembly session in the first or second week of September, Cabinet Minister Javid Ahmad Dar said on Friday, adding that the session is a legal obligation and due after a six-month gap.

Speaking to reporters, Dar as per news agency KINS said, “I think the Assembly session will begin in the first or second week of September. It is mandatory to convene it within six months, and the government is committed to fulfilling this obligation.”

Highlighting the government’s focus on rural development, Dar underlined that agriculture remains a top priority.

He said reforms are being introduced to improve yields and boost the rural economy. “We are providing farmers with high-density, good quality and exotic varieties so that their income can increase,” he noted.

On water supply issues, the minister said that the Department of Jal Shakti is working under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure clean drinking water reaches every household.

He said the first phase of water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan mission is nearly complete, while the second phase will cover unconnected habitations.

Responding to political questions, Dar reiterated the National Conference’s stance on restoration of statehood, calling it a “birthright.”

He added, “Statehood was taken away from us. We firmly believe it should be restored, and we expect all political parties to support this demand in one voice.”(KINS)
