Nalin Prabhat to take over new police chief

Srinagar, Sept 30 (KINS): Director General of Police R. R. Swain Monday said that serving in Jammu and Kashmir is akin to worship for security personnel.
“Serving in J&K is like worship for security personnel. Thousands of security forces have sacrificed their lives for lasting peace in J&K. I could have been killed during my service, but as DGP, I also worked hard to ensure a peaceful J&K,” Swain said on the day of his retirement, according to the Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
“I was given an opportunity by the government and the Almighty to serve the people of J&K, an opportunity that not everyone gets. I am grateful to my colleagues in the J&K Police and the security establishment. It was a very eventful phase, and I tried to contribute towards lasting peace,” he added.
IPS officer Nalin Prabhat is set to take over as the new DGP of Jammu and Kashmir.
Born on March 14, 1968, in Thungri village, Manali, Himachal Pradesh, Nalin Prabhat is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, where he earned both a BA (Honours) and an MA. His career spans key roles in both Andhra Pradesh and the Union government, where he has been recognized for his leadership and commitment to maintaining peace and security.
Prabhat’s appointment is part of an inter-cadre deputation, transferring him from the Andhra Pradesh cadre to the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre for a three-year term.
Prabhat brings a wealth of experience in law enforcement, particularly in conflict-prone areas. He has previously served as the Additional DG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and as the Inspector General of CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir, giving him deep familiarity with the region’s security dynamics. His distinguished service has earned him several accolades, including the Police Medal for Gallantry (three times), the Parakram Padak, and the Police Medal for Meritorious and Distinguished Service.
