Mehbooba Mufti calls on centre to honor J&K election results & avoid interference

Srinagar, Oct 08 (KINS): PDP President Mehbooba Mufti urged the Centre to respect the outcome of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections and refrain from interfering in the newly formed National Conference (NC)-Congress government.
Mehbooba stated she stressed the necessity of allowing the new government to operate independently.
Mufti congratulated NC leadership on their electoral success and underscored the importance of a stable government in addressing the region’s challenges, especially post-August 5, 2019.
“I congratulate the NC leadership for their victory and commend the people of Jammu and Kashmir for choosing stability instead of a hung assembly. A strong government is crucial for tackling pressing issues,” she said.
Mufti raised concerns about the risks associated with a fragmented mandate, suggesting it could lead to political instability.
“A clear mandate is essential to avoid potential misadventures,” she noted.
She warned the Centre against any interference in the new coalition’s governance, cautioning that such actions could lead to dire consequences. “If they interfere, it could be disastrous,” Mufti cautioned.
Reflecting on the election results, she stated that voters supported the NC-Congress alliance as a means to keep the BJP at bay and ensure stable administration.
“The public believed the NC-Congress alliance could prevent BJP’s influence, which is likely the reason for their victory,” she commented.
Mufti also recognized her party’s leaders and workers for their efforts amid challenging circumstances, encouraging them to stay resolute. “Our work doesn’t end with the elections. We will function as a constructive opposition, advocating for the people’s issues,” she concluded.(KINS)
