J&K Parties applaud assembly resolution seeking restoration of special status

Srinagar, Nov 6 ( KINS ) : Political parties across Jammu and Kashmir have expressed strong support for a resolution passed in the state assembly, urging the central government to engage in dialogue with local representatives to restore the region’s special status.
Calling the resolution “historic,” CPI(M) legislator from Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami, congratulated the assembly members and affirmed the longstanding commitment to reclaim what was “taken from us on August 5, 2019.” Tarigami emphasized that the resolution is a step toward honoring that commitment and urged the central government to initiate dialogue for the reinstatement of Article 370 without delay.
PDP youth leader and Pulwama MLA Waheed Para welcomed the resolution, describing it as a positive step aligned with the will of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. However, he expressed some reservations, noting that certain language in the resolution could have been stronger, particularly in condemning the 2019 decision that revoked J&K’s special status. “We seek restoration in its entirety,” Para stated, underscoring the importance of clear demands for reinstating the special status.
Peoples’ Conference Chairman and Handwara MLA, Sajad Lone, reiterated that the events of August 5, 2019, ran counter to the wishes of J&K’s residents. “The people of J&K have made it clear that they reject what was done that day,” he said, adding that this resolution would be remembered as a symbolic stance against the 2019 move.
The Congress Party, aligned with the ruling National Conference, also voiced support for the resolution. Congress Legislature Party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir stressed the need for restoring statehood with constitutional guarantees that protect local land and employment rights. Mir highlighted that the sentiment against the 2019 reorganization is widespread, and called for swift action to restore J&K’s dignity and autonomy.
The assembly’s resolution marks a unified call for dialogue with the central government, reflecting J&K’s collective demand for the restoration of its historical special status and protections.( KINS )
