Srinagar, Nov 09 (KINS): In a bid to enhance urban policing strategies, the Jammu & Kashmir Police hosted a One-Day Conference on “Urban Policing” at the Conference Hall of the District Police Office (DPO) Srinagar.
The conference saw participation from senior police officers, including Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, DySP DAR, and other law enforcement officials. It was also attended by key stakeholders, such as prominent citizens, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce Srinagar, media personnel, religious leaders, academicians, students, and civil administration officers.
SSP Srinagar, in his opening address, highlighted the growing need for smarter, more efficient policing in urban areas to prevent crime and address public grievances effectively. He emphasized that a collaborative approach between the police and the public is essential to ensure a safer, more secure urban environment.
Throughout the day, the conference featured discussions and informative speeches focusing on various challenges faced in urban policing. Key topics included tackling land and sand mafias, managing the floating population, addressing traffic congestion, and combatting terrorism. Experts also stressed the importance of modernizing police infrastructure and developing specialized urban policing models.
Among the key recommendations put forward were the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations such as bus stands, railway stations, and key road links, as well as the adoption of Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) to enhance traffic flow and reduce human intervention. The conference also called for the establishment of modern police stations equipped with advanced technology and weaponry, as well as the creation of an urban police model tailored to the specific needs of city environments. Additionally, tackling the growing drug menace in society was underscored as a priority.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the SSP Srinagar, who reiterated the importance of proactive and innovative measures to address the evolving challenges of urban crime. He stressed that continuous adaptation in policing strategies is essential to creating a safer urban environment.(KINS)
