Cold wave to persist, brief snowfall likely in Kashmir, says Met Dept

Srinagar Dec 18 (KINS): Director of the Meteorological Department Kashmir Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has  predicted a cold wave in the coming days with a slight possibility of snowfall in the mountains.
“A cold wave is expected to grip the region on December 19 and 20, with temperatures dropping significantly across stations. From December 21 onwards, the weather will turn slightly cloudy, with a brief spell of snowfall expected in the mountains between December 21 and 22,” Mukhtar told news agency KINS.
The forecast indicates that the weather is likely to remain dry from December 23 to 26, although an increase in cold conditions is expected during this period.
On the impact of Western Disturbances (WD) in the region, the Director stated, “As of now, it is difficult to predict any significant effect from the Western Disturbances. There are very few chances of notable activity. While some cloudiness is expected around December 27 and 28, no major weather events are anticipated in Jammu and Kashmir until the end of December.”
The department also stated at dropping minimum temperatures in Jammu, further intensifying the cold wave in the region.
Health experts have advised people to take precautions against the cold and plan accordingly for the weather conditions in the coming weeks. (KINS)
